Background

Iranians have made important contributions to the fields of medicine, biology, and engineering since ancient times. Iranian polymaths like Avicenna made groundbreaking discoveries in anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology over 1,000 years ago that laid the foundations for modern medicine and biology.

In recent decades, Iranian-Americans have continued this legacy of bioengineering innovation, drawing on their rich Iranian cultural heritage. Iranian-American bioengineers are leading research in diverse areas like biomedical imaging, biomaterials, biosensors, and cell/tissue engineering. Their groundbreaking work has led to impactful technologies that diagnose diseases earlier and develop personalized treatment plans for patients.

The Iranian-American Society of Bioengineers (IASB) was founded in 2023 by a group of distinguished Iranian-American scientists and engineers who saw the need to connect and empower the next generation to continue Iran's legacy of bioengineering innovation.

By building a global professional network and providing critical career development opportunities, the IASB aims to amplify Iranian-American perspectives, promote excellence, and ensure Iranian-Americans keep making significant advances in biotechnology that improve quality of life worldwide.
